Pittman, NJ... The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced four Lion athletes from The College of New Jersey were honored for their performances during the week ending May 16, 2010.
Sophomore
Leigh Mitchell (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and
Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) earned honors for their play during the NCAA tournament. Mitchell was named Offensive Player of the Week as she tallied eight goals and 14 assists in three games. In the process, Mitchell shattered the Lions single-season record for assists with 50 in 2010. The previous record was 37 assists set by Lee Moreau set in 1989.
Notos was named Defensive Player of the Week. She had 11 draw controls in the opening round game of the NCAA tournament against Cabrini College. Notos won the opening draw control in that game, stormed down the field, and scored just 13 seconds into the contest. She caused four turnovers in a 20-8 win over Claremont-Mudd Scripps, and notched four points in the season-ending loss to Salisbury University.
Sophomore
Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) earned NJAC Pitcher of the Week for her tremendous pitching performance in the 2010 NCAA Regional Championships spinning a one-hit, complete-game, shutout over Wesleyan University. Fitzsimmons struck out eight and was one batter away from tossing a five-inning no-hitter. The 8-0 victory was the seventeenth of the season for Fitzsimmons against just one defeat.
Junior
Kyle Gilroy (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford Twp.) was named Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. He posted NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles at the IC4A Championships at Princeton University.
