Seavers named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team

Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey senior softball player Ellen Seavers (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) followed up all of her on-the-field awards with a prestigious honor based on her work in the classroom as she was named to CoSIDA's ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Second Team.

Seavers has a grade-point-average of 3.97 majoring in early childhood education/psychology. She earned all-district first-team honors in each of the last two seasons and second-team honors in 2008.

She is a four-time TCNJ Scholar-Athlete and was the recipient of the institution's 2010 Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award as the senior with highest cum GPA.

The shortstop has started all 43 games this season for the nationally-ranked Lions as they captured the 2010 New Jersey Athletic Conference regular-season title going 16-2 in conference play. TCNJ also earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championships and finished the campaign with a record of 33-10.

Seavers batted .359 this season with that figure ranking seventh in the NJAC. She was second in the conference with 14 doubles and drove in a career-high 33 runs.

She was also recently earned All-NJAC First Team honors for the third straight season. Seavers was previously recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association landing on the 2009 East Region Second Team. This was the second time she has been honored by the organization after garnering honorable mention in 2008.
