Three Lions named to NFCA All-Region teams

NFCA All-East Region First Team honoree Lauren Fitzsimmons
Ewing, NJ... Three members of The College of New Jersey softball team were cited as being among the top players in the region as they were recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Senior Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) was named All-East Region First Team, while senior Crystal Lee (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) and junior Liz Huttner (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) each secured spots on the second team.

Fitzsimmons had a career year for the Lions as she set the program's all-time strikeout record at 469, while setting career highs in a host of categories. Those categories included wins (18), appearances (28), starts (25), complete games (23), shutouts (9), strikeouts (144), and innings pitched (179.1). She was previously named All-New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team and had one of the big highlights in the conference tournament firing a no-hitter in a win over Kean University.

Fitzsimmons is was an all-region second team selection in 2010 and this spring was a member of CoSIDA's 2012 Academic All-District Two First Team.

Lee earned regional honors for the third straight year earning a spot on the second team. She has been a member of the second team in each of the past two seasons, while garnering first-team honors in 2010. The left fielder led all players in the NJAC both runs (43) and stolen bases (43), both of which established new career highs. She also ranked in the top 10 in batting hitting .362.

Lee is a three-time All-NJAC First Team honoree and also excels in the classroom as well being named to CoSIDA's 2012 Academic All-District Two First Team.

Huttner was named All-East Region Second Team after receiving third-team recognition a year ago. The center fielder had a huge year at the plate leading the team with a .431 average, which ranked third in the conference. During the course of the season, she recorded a 14-game hitting streak and also had 15 multiple-hit games. She led the team in both hits (53) and doubles (10) and was twice named NJAC Player of the Week.

The Lions had another strong season as they finished 26-17 and earned a spot in the 2012 NCAA Division III Tournament for the second time in three seasons.
