Lawrenceville, NJ...The College of New Jersey men's and women's indoor track and field teams took on Rider University in a rare dual meet on Sunday with the Lions garnering a split with the Broncs.
TCNJ won the women's meet by the score of 84.5-79.5, while the Broncs won the men's meet, 85-78.
Women's Highlights
Senior Priscilla Senyah (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) boasted a pair of first-place finishes winning the 55-meter dash in 7.20 seconds and the 55-meter high hurdles in 8.27 seconds. Both of those times were NCAA provisional cuts.
Senior Michelle Wallace (Emerson, NJ/Emerson) won the mile in 5:10.30 as she also met a provisional cut. Senior Jianna Spadaccini (Butler, NJ/Butler) boasted an ECAC qualifying time of 58.57 seconds as she won the 400 meters.
In the field events, junior Rochelle Prevard (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow) won the high jump clearing 1.53 meters, while freshman Susie Pappas (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) took top honors in the pole vault clearing 8'-6”.
The Lions set a pair of school records in the dual meet with the first of those coming in the sprint medley relay team of Spadaccini, junior Meryl Wimberly (Farmingdale, NJ/Colts, Neck), Senyah, and junior Tiffany Etheredge (Newark, NJ/Central) placed first with a time of 4:10.83. The other record came in the weight throw as junior Sarah Wehrhan (Dodge City, KS/The Peddie School) bettered her own mark with a toss of 14.98 meters, which is also an ECAC mark.
Men's Highlights
Junior Kyle Gilroy (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford Township) picked up a pair of firsts starting with the 55- hurdles where he met a NCAA provisional standard with a swift time of 7.57 seconds. He also won the 400 meters with a clocking of 49.78 seconds.
Sophomore Robert Jiggetts (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) won the 55-meter dash as he had a time of 6.62 seconds, while junior Rob Nihan (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) ran his way to a first-place finish in the 3,000 in 8:46.58.
Junior Tim Blashford (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) won the pole vault sailing over the bar at an even 14 feet and sophomore Chris Medina (Lakewood, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) won the long jump with a leap of 6.74 meters.
The Lions also won a pair of relays taking top honors in the 4x400 and the spring medley relay.
