KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Ethan Weiss qualified for the NCAA regional meet and the TCNJ men's swimming team returned from a trip to the United States Merchant Marine Academy with 18 lifetime bests.
Weiss won both boards and hit the NCAA qualifying score on 1-meter, officially punching his ticket to the regional meet.
Weiss accounted for two of five first-place finishes for the Lions.
James McChesney touched first in the 200 fly,
Lukas Blach won the 200 free and
Ryan VanDeVeen captured the 200 breast.
Weiss was terrific on 1-meter, rolling to victory with a score of 292.00. He won the 3-meter with a tally of 283.60.
McChesney took the 200 fly in 1:57.02 and finished second in the 100 back (53.82), where Blach was fourth at 55.56 and VanDeVeen fifth at 55.97.
VanDeVeen enjoyed a strong afternoon, placing second in the 400 IM (4:20.99) in addition to winning the 200 breast in 2:11.77.
McChesney and Blach joined
Ryan Heerema and
Patrick Sullivan as part of the 200 medley relay unit that finished runner-up in 1:39.14.
Blach was dominant in the 200 free, scoring a 3-second victory over teammate
Conrad Hoody with a mark of 1:46.08.
Ethan Laible was fourth in the event at 1:50.78 and also finished second in the 500 free at 4:54.47, where
Jonah Herring was sixth (5:07.81). Hoody finished fifth in the 200 IM at 2:02.87, just ahead of
Andrew Walter in seventh (2:04.82) and
Alex Johnson in ninth (2:07.95).
Shawn Kushner was fourth in the 100 breast (1:00.28), fifth in the 400 IM (4:23.75), and seventh in the 100 fly (55.21). Sullivan joined Kushner in the top-five with a 1:00.65 in the 100 breast.
Kushner also swan with
Dixon Kahler,
Matt Watts, and
Thomas Zdroik to a runner-up finish in the 400 free relay (3:16.88).
Zdroik placed sixth in the 200 back (2:13.48), where D.J. DeSomma was seventh (2:14.80).
Jack Marble finished seventh in the 50 free (22.57) and 10
th in the 100 free (50.68).
The Lions host the TCNJ Invite from December 3-5.
