Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women’s lacrosse team had a number of players honored by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association as four players landed on the All-Boardwalk Region First Team with another reeling in second-team recognition.
Securing spots on the first team were senior Kelly Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), senior Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), sophomore Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon), and freshman Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic), while senior Tara Klein (Ocean, NJ/Ocean Township) was tabbed second team.
Mitchell was an anchor for the Lions on defense as the team led the nation in team defense allowing a mere 6.42 goals a game. The 2009 New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year collected 21caused turnovers and also chipped in with nine goals.
Reuther had a balanced season with 52 points on 24 goals and 28 assists, while being recognized as the NJAC Midfielder of the Year. She added to her well-rounded game with 46 draw controls and 31 ground balls.
Jaeger was named the 2009 NJAC Attack Player of the Year as she led the conference and the Lions in scoring with 65 goals and 80 points. She also finished with a team-leading 64 draw controls and 32 ground balls.
Notos was previously selected as the NJAC Rookie of the Year. The midfielder was a consistent performer all season picking up 30 goals and 40 points, 42 draw controls, and a team-best 22 caused turnovers.
Klein was another member of TCNJ’s steady defensive unit as she racked up 27 ground balls, 28 draw controls, and 15 caused turnovers.
The Lions went 16-3 on the season advancing to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals. The team also won the first NJAC Championship in conference history going a perfect 4-0 in those games.
