Men's Basketball

TCNJ falls to Stockton 99-85 in finale

Box score

Pomona, NJ... The College of New Jersey men's basketball dropped a 99-85 decision to Richard Stockton College bringing their 2009-2010 season to a close.

The Lions (13-11, 5-8 NJAC) chance to play for a post-season berth were dashed earlier in the week when Kean University upset Rowan University 73-70 in triple-overtime.

Senior Jay Frank (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) tallied a game-high 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting in his final game for TCNJ. Frank finished his career with 1,220 points placing him 12th on the program's all-time scoring list.

The Ospreys (19-6, 9-4 NJAC) were in control of play throughout most of the game. They took a 10-point lead midway through the first half, but the Lions clawed their way back into the game to tighten the gap to 41-37 at the half.

TCNJ briefly took a one-point lead in the second half after a Frank lay-up, but the dominant inside play of Stockton senior Omar Smith (Newark, NJ/Central) was too much to overcome. Smith registered a double-double with a game-high 26 points shooting a torrid 12-of-15 from the floor while grabbing 13 rebounds.

Lions' senior Aaron Syvertsen (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park), who battled an ankle injury late in the season, got hot in the second half scoring 11 of his 14 points. Syvertsen dropped in four three-pointers to give him 72 for the season, the most three-pointers made by anyone in the NJAC this year.

Junior Steve Siracusa (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) scored 14 points and grabbed 7 boards. Siracusa finished the season with 10 double-doubles. Sophomore Al Matlock (Trenton, NJ/Solebury) struck for eight points and four assists off the bench while senior Christoph Schoenbeck (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) chipped in with five points.
