Vernioa had a pivotal role as the Lions finished sixth at the 2010 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. The sophomore garnered a pair of second-place finshes starting with the 500-yard freestyle as he finished with a time of 4:25.28. He followed that performance up with another second as he posted a time of 1:38.80 in the 200 free. He earned All-American citations in each event. Vernioa picked up a third All-American honor in the 800 free relay as the Lions were fifth in 6:39.69.
