During the summer of 2007, The College of New Jersey’s baseball team underwent a change with the appointment of Dean Glus as the interim baseball coach at the College. Glus replaces Rick Dell, who resigned to accept a position with Major League Baseball in July.

Dean Glus said of his selection, “I am extremely honored and privileged to be able to follow in Rick Dell’s footsteps and look forward to this opportunity to continue the baseball program on a nationally competitive level.” Glus also noted, “I’m proud to have been part of TCNJ national prominence over the last 16 years and fully intend to keep the program on that level. Having been part of the athletic department for the last 17 years, in different capacities, it’s an honor to be part of a group of head coaches that represent the College with class, respect and integrity. I also want to thank, John Castaldo, IAthletic Director and Jim Norfleet, Vice President of Student Affairs, for giving me this opportunity and honor to continue the success of our student-athletes here at TCNJ, not only on the field but equally as important, in the classroom as well.”

No stranger to TCNJ’s baseball program and TCNJ’s department of athletics, Glus enters his 17th season with the College this fall after serving as the baseball program’s assistant coach for the past 16 years. In addition to his role as TCNJ’s baseball assistant coach, Glus was tapped as the College’s director of athletic and recreational facilities and scheduling after the retirement of Frank Harris in the spring of 2006.

Glus will serve as the ABCA Mid-Atlantic Region Coordinator for the 2008 NCAA Division III All-America committee.

Glus is a former three-year letterwinner for the Mountaineers at Division I West Virginia University. As WVU's top reliever, Glus helped his teams earn NCAA Tournament bids in 1985 and 1987.

Since arriving at TCNJ in 1990, Glus has been involved in many facets of the game on and off the field for the Lions ranging from pitching, catching, infield play, strategies of the game, and recruiting. In addition to his involvement with numerous TCNJ baseball camps and clinics, Glus also served as a national coach in Estonia, for the Junior and National baseball teams in the Baltic States in 1991. In 1996, Glus was tapped to serve as a coach with the Roberto Clemente All-Stars in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In the summer of 1997, he traveled to Guam and the Philippines while participating in Major League Baseball's International Asian tour.

Glus was married to Kristen Coyne in November of 2006. The couple resides in Tinton Falls, NJ. Glus holds his bachelor of science degree in sports management from WVU and earned his masters’ degree from The College of New Jersey in 1992.

Castaldo said of Glus’ appointment, “I am pleased to announce Dean’s appointment as interim baseball coach. The experience Dean has gained after serving as Rick Dell’s assistant for the past 16 season will allow our program to maintain consistency.” Castaldo added, “Over these years, Dean has been an integral part of the success of the baseball program both on and off the playing field, as well as, with our player’s academic pursuits. His knowledge of the NJAC along with his baseball teaching skills and awareness of where we are as a program will allow us to move forward. Dean has a deep rooted belief and feeling about TCNJ, which is evident by his years of serving the Lions’ baseball program and TCNJ’s athletic department as a whole.”

Glus inherits a squad that has earned three straight New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships as well as NCAA bids in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. The Lions went 34-11 in 2007 and had two players tapped as National All-Americans adding to the program’s long list of accomplishments and honors.
