The College of New Jersey’s Director of Athletics, John Castaldo announced the permanent appointment of Dean Glus (Formerly of North Braddock, PA and now of Tinton Falls, NJ) as the baseball
coach at the College during the summer of 2008. Glus was appointed as the program’s interim coach in July of 2007 filling the void left by Rick Dell, when he resigned to accept a position with Major League Baseball in 2007.

Dean Glus said of his selection, “I feel privileged and honored to be named the next head baseball coach of what has been and what I am confident will continue to be one of the top Division III baseball programs in the country.” Glus added,” I am grateful to The College of New Jersey's Administration - in particular, John Castaldo, Director of Athletics and Jim Norfleet, Vice President of Student Affairs- for giving me the opportunity to lead the baseball program not only on the field, but also in the classroom."

Athletic Director John Castaldo noted of the selection of Glus, “Under Dean Glus, TCNJ’s baseball program did not miss a beat this past season.” Castaldo added “Dean led the program to a strong finish with a 30-12 record and helped the Lions earn a spot in the NJAC and NCAA tournaments. Under his guidance the baseball program continued to be a strong national contender.”

No stranger to TCNJ’s baseball program and TCNJ’s department of athletics, Glus is entering his 18th season with the College year after serving as the interim head baseball coach during the 2007 season and the assistant coach with the program the previous 16 years.

In addition to his role as TCNJ’s baseball assistant coach, Glus was tapped as the College’s director of athletic and recreational facilities and scheduling after the retirement of Frank Harris in the spring of 2006.

Glus is a former three-year letterwinner for the Mountaineers at Division I West Virginia University. As WVU's top reliever, Glus helped his teams earn NCAA Tournament bids in 1985 and 1987.

Since arriving at TCNJ in 1990, Glus has been involved in many facets of the game on and off the field for the Lions ranging from pitching, catching, infield play, strategies of the game, and recruiting. In addition to his involvement with numerous TCNJ baseball camps and clinics, Glus also served as a national coach in Estonia, for the Junior and National baseball teams in the Baltic States in 1991. In 1996, Glus was tapped to serve as a coach with the Roberto Clemente All-Stars in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In the summer of 1997, he traveled to Guam and the Philippines while participating in Major League Baseball's International Asian tour.

Glus was married to Kristen Coyne in November of 2006. The couple resides in Tinton Falls, NJ. Glus holds his bachelor of science degree in sports management from WVU and earned his masters’ degree from The College of New Jersey in 1992.

During his rookie season as the program’s interim head coach in 2008, Glus guided the Lions to a national Top-five ranking at one point during the season, while helping the Lions contend in both the NJAC and the NCAA championships at season’s end. The team had a strong 30-12 finish and No. 29 final national ranking.
Glus’s 2008 squad kept the streak of consecutive NCAA bids in tact as the Lions have now earned NCAA bids in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008.

Castaldo added, “After head coach Rick Dell’s departure, Dean exhibited an ability to immediately step in and he successfully lead the program in all facets. His tenure as an assistant coach in our baseball program began in 1990 and this loyalty and experience enabled him to lead both on the diamond and off the playing field. He has shown a relentless work ethic and through his years of experience within TCNJ’s athletic department, he offers a great deal to our mission. His character and ability to communicate effectively with our players and alumni was highly evident in the support he has received. We are excited to have Dean as a permanent member of our department.”

Glus continued, "I must also thank the players and their families - past and present- for their unwavering support, while I was the interim head coach. I do not doubt that their emails, letters, and phone calls played a role in administration's decision to hire me. Furthermore, I am excited to be joining such an outstanding department. The head coaches here are some of the best in the NCAA as represented by the success of their players on and off the field. I only hope that I can become as accomplished as they are over the course of my career."
