Senior Night Insert

Ewing, NJ… Seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins University got a goal from freshman Leslie O'Brien (Huntington, NY/Huntington) with 12:36 remaining as the Blue Jays spoiled “Senior Night” for The College of New Jersey women's soccer team on Wednesday.

The win kept Johns Hopkins University undefeated on the season at 12-0-3, while the Lions dropped to 9-5-1. It also marked the first time in 10 meetings in the all-time series that the Blue Jays had defeated TCNJ.

Prior to the game, TCNJ's eight seniors were recognized for their contributions to the program during their careers. Honored were Jillian Casey (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern), Erin Cunliffe (Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood), Laura Delaney (River Vale, NJ/Immaculate Academy), Amy Hashem (West Windsor-Plainsboro South), Kristina Kuda (Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford), Jamie Kunkel (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), Allie Schilling (Somerdale, NJ/Triton), and Coleen Weber (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview).

Both teams had quality chances in the scoreless first half as Kunkel was denied from in tight on a nice save by Blue Jay keeper Karen Guszkowski (Sayreville, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick), while TCNJ goalie Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) made a diving save on a hooking shot by Lisa Irizarry (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) late in the period.

Clarke finished with a pair of saves, while Guszkowski collected six.

The Lions return to New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday traveling to Ramapo College for a 1 p.m. start, while the Blue Jays head to Bryn Mawr for a 2 p.m. contest.
