Box Score
Ewing, NJ… Stevens Institute of Technology scored the game's only goal in the early stages of the second half as the visiting Ducks defeated The College of New Jersey 1-0 in an in-state women's soccer game on Wednesday at Lions' Stadium.
The win elevated Stevens' record to 8-2-1 on the season, while the Lions slipped to 7-3-1. The win by Stevens was its first in six tries in the abbreviated all-time series with TCNJ, which began in 2002.
The Ducks scored 4:20 into the second half as Leslie Kallberg (Mission Viejo, CA/Mission Viejo) initiated the play on the far wing with a pass to Erica Risch (Mission Viejo, CA/Mission Viejo). Risch then touched the ball to Katria Misilo (Short Hills, NJ/Milburn), who tucked a shot into the upper corner of the Lion net.
The hosts had a great chance to knot the score in the final five minutes of the contest as senior Jamie Kunkel (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) got off a rising shot from inside the Stevens penalty area, but keeper Kaitlin McClymont (Corpus Christi, TX/Flour Bluff) made the save to secure the win.
Both teams had good scoring chances a scoreless first half with TCNJ keeper Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) denying one of them with a diving save on a low shot from Salme Cook (Fairfax, VA/WT Woodson).
McClymont did her part in the half as well making back-to-back stops stopping TCNJ's Laura Delaney (River Vale, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) on a header off a corner and a few seconds later thwarted Kunkel from close range.
Clarke finished with four saves for the Lions, while McClymont made six for the Ducks.
The Lions play their final non-conference game of the season Sunday heading to the University of Mary Washington, while the Ducks return to Empire 8 action on Saturday at Alfred University.
