Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to #1 Messiah College at Lions' Stadium on Saturday night.
The top-ranked Falcons (9-0) scored on three straight corner kicks in a span of 4:48 in the first half to take command of the match. The Lions (4-4-3, 2-1-1) played hard, but had difficulty containing the speed and strength of Messiah.
Junior Nick Thompson (Hudson, OH) registered a hat trick and junior Geoff Pezon (Blandon, PA) netted his ninth and tenth goals of the season to go with a pair of assists to lead the Falcons offense. Sophomore Danny Thompson (Hudson, OH) also assisted on two goals. Messiah has now outscored their opponents 33-5 this season.
TCNJ received solid efforts from seniors
Kevin Luber (Delran, NJ/Delran), Anthony Staropoli (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan), and junior
Michael Razzoli (Parlin, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy). Freshman goalkeeper
Adam Friedman (Chester, NJ/West Morris Mendham) recorded five saves for the Lions.
TCNJ enjoys a week off before returning to conference action next Saturday, October 10 at New Jersey City University. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
