Ewing, NJ... After not playing at home for more than a month, The College of New Jersey women's soccer team returned home in style as the Lions handled visiting New Jersey City University on Saturday at TCNJ's Soccer Complex.
The Lions opened the season at home, but then played nine straight road games before facing the Gothic Knights. The win put TCNJ at 10-1 on the season and 4-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The loss dropped NJCU to 1-4 in the NJAC and 7-6 overall.
The Lions broke open the scoring midway through the opening half with a pair of quick goals as freshman Allyson Anderson (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) put the hosts in front 1-0. TCNJ doubled that advantage 3:08 later as junior Casey Caruso (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) picked up her fifth of the season.
TCNJ tacked on two more goals by the end of the period as the tandem of Joanna Pisani (Wyckoff, NJ/Haddon Heights) and senior Jillian Casey (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) accounted for those goals. Casey netted the first with an assist from Pisani before the players switched roles with Pisani sending TCNJ into the half leading 4-0 on an assist from Casey.
In the second half, the Lions continued to add to their lead as Caruso netted her second of the game before Nikki Migliori (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) increased the margin to 6-0 scoring on a direct kick.
TCNJ's final goal came off of the foot of freshman Chelsea Tompkins (Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon) as she picked up her first collegiate goal.
Junior Briann McDonough (North Arlington, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) added a pair of assists in the win.
The Lions took all 36 shots in the game as goalies Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) and Samantha Iamurri (Logan Township, NJ/Kingsway) shared the shutout.
Gothic Knight keeper Catherine Hensley (Dripping Springs, TX/Dripping Springs) had a busy game registering 12 saves.
The Lions venture out of conference on Wednesday, October 7 heading to Stevens Institute of Technology for an 8 p.m. start.
