Landrigan nets pair as Lions thump Stevens

Senior Kristina Shemming notched her first goal of the season

Box Score

Hoboken, NJ … On a windy night by the Hudson River, The College of New Jersey women's soccer team blew past Stevens Institute of Technology 4-0.

The Lions (11-1) received major contributions from its rookie players and controlled play from the opening whistle to keep pressure on the Ducks (3-9) defense throughout the contest. Freshman Kate Landrigan (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) notched a pair of goals and senior Jilian Casey (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) knocked in her fourth goal of the season, giving TCNJ their 11th win in 12 matches.

Landrigan came off the bench at the 26-minute mark for head coach Joe Russo and found the back of the net less than three minutes later for her fourth tally of the season. Fellow freshman Allyson Anderson (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) fed Landrigan for her second assist on the year. Despite outshooting Stevens 13-1 in the first half, the score remained 1-0 at the intermission.

Casey provided TCNJ with a two-goal lead just over five minutes into the second half when she headed in a corner kick from sophomore Nikki Migliori (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) for her fourth goal of the season. Landrigan struck for her fifth goal of the year, taking a through ball from freshman Amy Van Dyk (Wykoff, NJ/Ramapo) and slotting the ball past the Ducks keeper to make it a 3-0 score.

Senior Kristina Shemming (Cranbury, NJ/West Windsor-South) gained control of a loose ball in the box and rifled home a winner for her first goal of the season. In their 4-0 win, TCNJ outshot the Ducks 30-3 as senior goalkeeper Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) needed just two saves for the Lions eighth shutout of the season.

TCNJ returns home to host the University of Mary Washington on Sunday, October 11 at 1 p.m. at TCNJ Soccer Compex. The Lions continue conference play on Wednesday, October 14 when Richard Stockton College visits Lions' Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. match.
