Lions pull away from Hartwick in second half

Oneonta, NY...The College of New Jersey women's soccer team remained undefeated on the young season as the Lions scored four times in the second half to beat Hartwick College 5-0 and win the Oneonta Mayor's Cup on Sunday.

The win elevated TCNJ's record to 5-0 on the season and they have outscored the opposition by the count of 22-2.

For the second straight game, junior Briann McDonough (North Arlington, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) tallied the game winner as she netted the lone goal of the opening half in the 20th minute. That goal was assisted by Eva Gimello (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy). McDonough was tabbed as the Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Tournament.

In the second half, the Lions exploded for four more goal as Brenna Rubino (Voorhees, NJ / Eastern) got things going and then freshman Katie Landrigan (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) netted a pair of goals two minutes apart.

Freshman Alexa Rozzi (Freehold, NJ / Freehold Township) capped the scoring in the closing minutes cashing in on an assist from classmate Amy Van Dyk (Wyckoff, NJ / Ramapo).

In addition to McDonough, Landrigan, Annie McCarthy (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial), and Toni DeMaio (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany Hills) also landed spots on the all-tournament team.

Senior keeper Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) made one save for her third shutout of the season.

The Lions remain on the road heading to Swarthmore College on Wednesday, September 16 in a 7:30 p.m. start.
