Dallas, PA...The College of New Jersey women's soccer team broke open a close game with four goals in the second half as the Lions rolled to their third straight win to start the season as defeating Misericordia University by the score of 5-0 on Saturday.
TCNJ (3-0) won both of their games in the Misericordia Tournament outscoring the opposition by a combined 13-1 in those victories.
Freshman Allyson Anderson (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) couldn't have gotten the Lions off to a better start scoring her second goal in as many days finding the back of the net only 1:25 into the game.
The score remained 1-0 into the second half, with the Lions regaining their scoring touch in the final 45 minutes. Junior Briann McDonough (North Arlington, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) notched her first of the season 7:11 into the new half and senior Jillian Casey (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) made it 3-0 just over 10 minutes later.
The Lions added two more late goals as Brenna Rubino (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) scored with less than 14 minutes remaining and freshman Amy Van Dyk (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) tacked on another with under a minute showing on the clock.
Senior keeper Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) made a pair of saves for TCNJ as she earned her second shutout of the season.
