Newark, NJ... The College of New Jersey women's soccer team's tied a season-high with seven goals as the Lions reeled off their 11th straight win to start the season with a 7-0 win at Rutgers University-Newark on Saturday.
The win keeps second-ranked TCNJ undefeated in New Jersey Athletic Conference play at 5-0, while moving to 11-0 overall. The Lions have also garnered 10 of those 11 wins by shutout.
Paired with Rowan University's 1-0 loss to William Paterson University earlier in the day, TCNJ is now in sole possession of first place in the conference standings with 15 points, while the Pioneers are a close second with 13, going 4-0-1 in the NJAC.
Sophomore forward Katie Landrigan (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) netted the first two goals of the match less than a minute apart as TCNJ jumped out to a 5-0 halftime advantage. Also scoring in the opening frame were Brenna Rubino (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern), Toni DeMaio (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills), and Jessica Davila (Middletown, NJ/Middletown).
Rounding out the win with second-half goals for the Lions were senior Casey Caruso (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and Rubino.
TCNJ dominated throughout outshooting the Scarlet Raiders 40-0 and took all six corner kicks.
Keepers Kendra Griffith (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and Samantha Iamurri (Logan Township, NJ/Kingsway) shared the shutout for the Lions.
A tough test awaits the Lions in their next outing as 20th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology visits Lions' Stadium on Wednesday, October 6 in a 7:30 p.m. start.
