Ewing, NJ... Balance on both of ends of the field once again paid dividends for The College of New Jersey women's soccer team as they posted a 2-0 win over visiting Swarthmore College on Wednesday for its sixth straight victory.
The win kept the second-ranked Lions undefeated (6-0) on the season thanks to a pair of first-half goals and a defensive unit that allowed the Garnet only one shot on goal. TCNJ has won all six of its games this season by shutout and have outscored the opposition by 17-0 margin.
The loss put Swarthmore at 2-3 on the year.
The Lions grabbed the lead with 10:10 showing on the clock in the opening half as sophomore Jessica Davila (Middletown, NJ/Middletown) created space inside the Swarthmore penalty area and fired a low shot just inside the far post for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
TCNJ doubled that advantage as sophomore Amy Van Dyk (Wykoff, NJ/Ramapo) collected a failed clearing attempt and the lined a shot into the into the near corner for a 2-0 lead.
Lion keeper Kendra Griffith (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) made only one save in the game, but it was a good one as she punched a rising shot off of the foot of Swarthmore's Kirsten Peterson (Fenton, MI/Powers Catholic) over the cross bar. The win was her sixth of the season and her fourth shutout.
In goal for the Garnet, junior Marie Mutryn (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) finished with three saves, while Kaitlyn Sipiora (Folsom, CA/Vista Del Lago) had five.
TCNJ kicks off New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday as they head to Ramapo College for a 1 p.m. start against the Roadrunners.
