Ryan O'Donnell nets game-winner.

Box score

Camden, NJ ... Ryan O'Donnell (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) tallied the game-winning goal at the 57:31 mark as The College of New Jersey men's soccer team defeated Rutgers University-Camden 2-1.

The sophomore midfielder picked an opportune time to notch his first career goal as he headed in a restart from classmate Vince McEnroe (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) to break a 1-1 tie and give the Lions (3-5-1, 2-1 NJAC) a road win in New Jersey Athletic Conference play.

Junior Ray Nelan (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) gave TCNJ a 1-0 lead midway through the opening half when he ripped a left-footed shot from the right side of the box into the left corner for his first goal of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Adam Friedman (Chester, NJ/West Morris Mendham) needed just one save to keep the Scarlet Raptors off the scoreboard at the intermission as the Lions tight defense contained the Rutgers-Camden attack.

Just 44 seconds into the second half, however, Raptor forward Zaire Putmon gathered a through ball from Mitch Grotti and deposited it into the upper right-hand corner to even the score. TCNJ retaliated just under 12 minutes later as O'Donnell stepped forward to lift the Lions to their second conference win in three contests. McEnroe served up his team-leading third assist of 2010.

Friedman finished with five saves in the game and recorded his first win of the season. TCNJ outshot Rutgers-Camden 15-14 in the game.

The Scarlet Raptors lost their second straight game after winning six out of seven. They dropped a 2-1 decision to Kean University in double-overtime this past Saturday.

The Lions are back in action on Homecoming eve as they host Rutgers University-Newark on Saturday, October 2 at 7 p.m. Rutgers-Camden (6-5, 2-2 NJAC) visits Montclair State University for a 1 p.m. start.
