Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's soccer team suffered a tough, 3-2 overtime loss to William Paterson University in New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions (4-6-4, 0-4-2 NJAC) had a pair of one-goal leads in the contest, but the Pioneers (10-2-2, 4-1-1 NJAC) went ahead when it mattered most as senior
Joe Maddolin (Dumont, NJ/Dumont) scored the game-winner off a corner kick with 1:28 remaining in the first overtime period.

Ryan Sullivan (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) each scored for TCNJ, while junior
Vince McEnroe (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and senior
Ed Kozic (Raritan, NJ/Immaculata) added assists.
The Lions got on the scoreboard just ten minutes into the match. McEnroe sent a ground pass off a corner kick to the top of the box. Gregory streaked in and ripped a one-timer into the top left-hand corner of the net for his third goal of the season.
WPU came back to the tie the game late in the half. Maddolin flicked a throw-in to the head of classmate
Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) who found the back of the net for his 13
th goal of the season.
Early in the second period, Kozic touched the ball to Sullivan in front of the net and he promptly deposited it for a 2-1 lead. It was Sullivan's first collegiate goal.
With just over 10 minutes remaining in the match, junior
Michael Encarnacion (Franklin, NJ/Passaic County Tech) collected a rebound off the crossbar and punched in his first goal of the year to knot the game at two.
The Lions had an excellent scoring chance in the 94
th minute when
Kevin Shaw (Brookside, NJ/West Morris Mendham) took a shot from the left side of the box that was deflected by Pioneer goalkeeper
Zach Collins (Bayville, NJ/Central Regional). The loose ball bounced in front, but a WPU defender cleared it to end the threat.
The Pioneers secured their 10
th win when sophomore
Matt Nigro (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) served a corner kick that Maddolin put away for his fourth goal of the year.

Matt Frederick (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Mt. Laurel) finished the game with 6 saves, while Collins had 5 saves on the day
