Lions fall to Rowan; grab second seed in tournament

Box Score

Glassboro, NJ... With the top seed in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference on the line, Rowan University used a goal in the early stages of the second half to come away with a 2-1 win over The College of New Jersey women's soccer team on Wednesday in Glassboro.

Rowan earned the top seed in the tournament with a perfect 8-0 conference mark, while the 21st-ranked Lions secured the second seed finishing their NJAC schedule at 7-1.  The loss knocked TCNJ to 10-3-2 overall.

By finishing second, the Lions earned a bye in the opening round of the tournament and will host a semifinal match-up on Tuesday, November 1 against an opponent yet to be determined. That game will be played at 7:30 p.m. in Lions' Stadium.

Rowan struck first scoring 17 minutes into the game and then protected that lead into the break.

That deficit didn't last long once the new half started as senior Brittany McGinley (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) picked up a rebound off of a shot by sophomore Katie Lindacher (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) for her team-leading 11th goal of the season. That goal came 1:12 into the fresh half.

Rowan regained the lead 10 minutes later as Evynn Wright put the hosts in front 2-1.

TCNJ carried play for most of the game holding a 24-8 advantage in shots, including a 14-5 edge in the second half.

Lion keeper Cristina Gacos (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) had three saves for the Lions.
