Ewing, NJ...  The College of New Jersey broke open a scoreless game with a pair of goals in the second half as the Lions picked up a 2-0 non-conference win over Gettysburg College on Wednesday.

The win was the eighth straight for the 13th-ranked Lions with each of those wins coming by a shutout. TCNJ is 8-1 on the season.

The loss squared Gettysburg's record at 5-5.

Once the game moved into the second half, TCNJ found the mark as Brenna Rubino (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) laced a shot into the upper corner of the net after collecting a free ball off of a Lion corner kick.  That goal came 8:40 into the fresh half.

The Lions doubled that advantage 17 minutes later as freshman Jordan Downs (Brick, NJ/Brick) served the ball into the Bullet penalty area where a waiting Brittany McGinley (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) knocked it into the net. The goal marked the third straight game the Lion senior has scored and set a career high for goals in a season with seven.

The teams were scoreless through the opening 45 minutes of the game with the Lions carrying play. Once of those chances came just over 10 minutes into the game as sophomore Sloan DePiero (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) sent a long pass through the Gettysburg defense that junior Allyson Anderson (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) ran onto. Anderson got off a quality shot that rolled just wide of the far post.

For the game, the Lions had a 25-1 edge in shots.

Freshman keeper Cristina Gacos (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) picked up her seventh shutout of the season without facing a shot as she extended her streak of not allowing a goal to 726:35.

In goal for Gettysburg, senior Allie Rivera (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) finished with a dozen saves.

TCNJ returns to New Jersey Athletic Conference play heading to William Paterson University for a 6 p.m. contest, while the Bullets play on Sunday as they host Swarthmore College at 1 p.m.
