Galloway, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's soccer team battled New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent Richard Stockton College to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday night.

The Lions (3-3-1, 0-1-1 NJAC) held a 1-0 lead late in the game, but Osprey forward Pat Rafferty tallied a clutch goal with 1:01 remaining in regulation to tie the match. The contest concluded in a draw, marking the third consecutive year the two programs have played to a tie.

TCNJ senior Luigi Moriello (Ewing, NJ/Notre Dame) scored for the Lions late in the first half. He took a feed from junior Kevin Shaw (Brookside, NJ/West Morris Mendham) and punched it between the pipes at the 35:43 mark for his third goal of the season

The Lions appeared to be in control of the game, but Stockton (5-2-1, 0-1-1 NJAC) applied intense pressure in the waning moments. After getting off just six shots through the first 81 minutes of the game, the Ospreys fired five attempts on net in a span of 6:30 as Rafferty converted at the 88:59 mark. (Rafferty currently leads the NJAC in game-winning goals with four this year.)

The overtime periods held few scoring chances with TCNJ holding a 3-2 advantage in shots. In the game, the Lions outshot the Ospreys 17-13.

Junior goalkeeper Matt Frederick (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) made three saves for TCNJ in the game.

The Lions return to action on Thursday night when they visit FDU-Florham at 7:30 p.m. TCNJ continues its conference play against Montclair State University this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at TCNJ's Soccer Complex.
