Collegeville, PA – The College of New Jersey wrestling team picked up a narrow 21-18 win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy, but also fell to Messiah College in two of its three matches at the North/South Duals on Saturday.
 
The 21^st-ranked Lions also wrestled the University of Scranton and came away with an easy 42-6 victory.
 
The Lions (3-2) scored the first 14 points of the match against USMMA as Joey DiCarlo (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) won at 125, Dan Herr (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) at 133, and John Palsi (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) at 141. Also adding wins were John Darling (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) at 157 and Trevor Salvatore (Jefferson, NJ/Jefferson) at heavyweight.
 
Against Messiah, Darling and Salvatore posted wins for the Lions.
 
Next weekend, the Lions head to the prestigious Budd Whitehill Duals hosted by Lycoming College. The two-day tournament starts on Friday, January 13 and brings together many of the elite programs from around the country. In that tournament, half of the 20 teams participating are currently ranked.
