Ewing, NJ …The College of New Jersey men's soccer team staged a second-half comeback, but fell one goal shy as they dropped a 3-2 decision to Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night in Lions' Stadium.

The Lions (4-9) fell behind by three goals in the first half, but turned things around after the intermission. Goals by senior Vince McEnroe (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and junior Sean Casey (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) closed the gap to one score, but the Mules (6-3) were able to hang on to secure their sixth victory of the season.

Senior Cody Antonini netted the first two goals of the contest, while Joey Roberts knocked in the third goal for Muhlenberg. Antonini now has 49 goals in his career.

The Mules got on the board early when Antonini ran onto a ball that deflected off of a TCNJ defender. He collected the ball from the left side and placed a low shot past the keeper for an early 1-0 advantage.

The visitors struck again at the 24:13 mark. Nate Squire carried the ball to the end line and delivered a perfect pass to the foot of Antonini, who first-timed a shot for his ninth goal of the season.

With just under five minutes remaining in the half, Muhlenberg stretched its lead to 3-0 on a highlight-reel goal by Roberts. Oliver Katz sent a cross through the air to the top of the box. Roberts planted, looked over his right shoulder, and hit a side volley into the top right-corner for his second goal of the season.

TCNJ came out with greater urgency in the second half. McEnroe stepped forward to snap a scoring drought for the Lions, knocking in a rebound at the 69:48 mark for his second goal of the season.

With 10:10 remaining in the game, McEnroe drilled a corner kick to the near-side six-yard line. Casey volleyed a shot on the run that curled inside the near-post to make it a 3-2 game. It was the first goal of the season for Casey.

TCNJ goalkeeper Matt Fredrick (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) made several outstanding stops in the second half. He faced 16 shots overall and made six saves, several coming from point-blank range. Mules' goalkeeper Ellison Heill stopped three shots to register the win.

The Lions square off against Salisbury University on Saturday, October 3 at 1 p.m. in TCNJ's Soccer Complex. The Mules host Washington College on Saturday at 7 p.m.
