TCNJ men's soccer edged by Stevens 1-0

Box Score

Hoboken, NJ …The College of New Jersey men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday afternoon in Hoboken, NJ.

A tally midway through the second half propelled the Ducks (3-2) to their third win overall and second straight home victory. The loss evens the Lions record at 3-3.

Both teams battled to create scoring opportunities in the opening period, but the Lion and Duck defenses were stingy in their defensive third. Only four shots were taken in the first 45 minutes, three by the host and one by junior Kevin Shaw (Brookside, NJ/West Morris Mendham).

Stevens broke the deadlock at the 67:53 mark when junior Leonardo Casas penetrated the middle of the field before dishing off to sophomore Jonathan Stallone. Stallone took the feed and knocked in his first goal of the season to give the Ducks the only goal they would need.

TCNJ had its best scoring chance with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game when freshman Jordan Kyal (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) ripped a shot from the outside that sailed just over the crossbar.

Ducks goalkeeper Paul Killian, who was name Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week last week, needed to stop just one shot to earn his second shutout of the season. Lions freshman keeper Maciej Libucha (Woodland Park, NJ/Passaic Valley) made a pair of saves in net.

TCNJ returns home for its New Jersey Athletic Conference opener with Ramapo College on Saturday, September 15 at 1 p.m. in TCNJ's Soccer Complex.
