Women's Soccer

First-half goal lifts TCNJ to 1-0 win at Farmingdale St.

Junior Leigh Applestein had the game's lone goal.
Box Score
Farmingdale, NY… One goal was enough for The College of New Jersey women's soccer team to remain undefeated as the Lions came away with a 1-0 road win on Saturday at Farmingdale State College.

Seventh-ranked TCNJ (5-0) netted that deciding goal with 7:35 left in the opening period when junior Leigh Applestein (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) picked up her second goal of the season. That goal was assisted by junior Jordan Downs (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) as she took a corner kick for the Lions. That was her team-leading third assist of the season.

That goal stood the rest of the way thanks to a defense that allowed only three shots on goal in the 90 minutes. Senior keeper Kendra Griffith (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) stopped all three of those shots for her third shutout of the season.

The loss knocked the Rams to 3-3.

The Lions are back on the field on Thursday, September 19 heading to FDU-Florham for a 7 p.m. start.
