TCNJ tops FDU-Florham 4-1 to stay undefeated

Madison, NJ… A late goal in the first half and three more in the second helped The College of New Jersey women's soccer team stay undefeated as the Lions netted a 4-1 road win at FDU-Florham on Thursday.
 
The win put the fourth-ranked Lions at 6-0 on the season, while the Devils dipped to 3-4.
 
Junior Leigh Applestein (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) gave the Lions a huge boast late in the first half scoring on a breakaway with 46 seconds before the break, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
 
In the second half, junior Jordan Downs (Brick, NJ/Brick) cashed in a penalty kick making it a 2-0 lead. That goal came 14:34 into the new period.
 
Just over seven minutes later, TCNJ struck again as senior midfielder Sloan DePiero (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) knocked in her second of the season on an assist from freshman Brianna Petro (Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan).
 
The final goal for the Lions came with 9:58 left in the game with freshman Chalen Noble (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) collected her first collegiate goal. That goal came on an assist from classmate Lauren Malajian (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley).
 
The Devils spoiled TCNJ's bid for a second straight shutout with 1:13 left.
 
Senior keeper Kendra Griffith (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) made one save for her 39th career victory.
 
The Lions open New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 21 hosting Ramapo College at 1 p.m.
