Oneonta, NY... Freshman
Jessica Goldman (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) is quickly developing a knack for scoring timely goals for The College of New Jersey women's soccer team. The forward showed that magic for the second straight game on Saturday picking up the game winner as the 11
th-ranked Lions blanked SUNY Oneonta 2-0 in the opening round of the Oneonta Mayor's Tournament.
Â
The victory put TCNJ at 3-0 for the season and Goldman has scored the deciding goal in each of the last two wins. On Wednesday she scored a late goal to sink Virginia Wesleyan College, but on Saturday, she struck early. The tally came only 2:27 into the contest and that proved to be the only goal the Lions would need as the defense recorded its third straight shutout to start the season.
Â
The Lions did add a late insurance goal in the second half with sophomore
Marissa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, NY/Pearl River) scoring the first goal of her career. That goal came with 2:18 left in the game with sophomore
Christine Levering (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) earning an assist.
Â
TCNJ goalie
Kendra Griffith (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) picked up her second straight shutout as she posted a season-high five saves.
Â
The Lions are right back on the field tomorrow when they take on Hartwick College at 2:30 p.m. to wrap up the two-day tournament.
