Williamsport, PA… The College of New Jersey wrestling team won both of its matches on Saturday at the annual Budd Whitehill National Duals in Williamsport, PA.
Â
TCNJ opened the day in dominating fashion beating SUNY Cortland 28-9, and then defeated York (PA) College by the score of 28-8.
Â
The 30
th-ranked Lions went 4-1 in the tournament and improved to 8-4 on the season.
Â
The Lions took control of the Red Dragons right from the start winning the first five weight classes. Two grapplers posted wins in that span as sophomore
Kevin Corrigan Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) opened the dual meet with a win by fall in 4:40 at 125. Freshman

Â
Once again, TCNJ grabbed control of the match early. After Corrigan won by major decision at 125, the Spartans quickly tied the match at 4-4. The Lions then reeled off six straight wins to claim a commanding 22-4 lead. The highlight of that string of victories came at the start when Budzek won by fall in the second period at 141.
Â
The next four wins came from
Steve Schneider (Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) at 149
, Luke Balina (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) at 157,

Â
The tournament features a new format this year with four groups of four competing in a round robin, with the winners of the four groups being reseeded into a championship bracket on Saturday and competing in a four-team tournament for the championship.
Â
The Lions are idle until Tuesday, January 20 when they return home to host the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 7 p.m. in Packer Hall.
