Ewing, NJ …The College of New Jersey women's basketball team coasted to its fourth straight win as they defeated Ramapo College 58-44 in Packer Hall on Wednesday night.
Â
The New Jersey Athletic Conference victory raised the Lions overall record to 7-5 and 2-4 in the conference. The Roadrunners fell to 4-8 overall and 0-6 in the NJAC.
Â
Senior co-captains
Kelly Coughlin (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull), Kylie O'Donnell (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) and
Jessica Goldbach (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) paced the Lions, but a complete team effort was responsible for TCNJ allowing the fewest amount of points to date this season.
Â
Coughlin netted a game-high 18 points, hitting 5-of-6 three-pointers in the contest. Goldbach scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while O'Donnell had a solid all-around game with five points, five boards, four assists and three steals.
Â
Ramapo was led by senior
Kerrie Kosakowski (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) who finished with nine points, two assists and two steals.
L'india Davenport (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) tallied eight point and four rebounds and
Doris Ilic (Guttenberg, NJ/North Bergen) chipped in with seven points.
Â
Shooting in the first seven minutes of the game reflected the temperatures outside Packer Hall as both teams struggled to find their scoring touch. O'Donnell directed the ship through rough waters early on until Coughlin drained a pair of three-point field goals to spark the Lions. The lead grew to 13 points after junior guard
Angelica Esposito (Lincroft, NJ/St. John Vianney) hit from downtown. Esposito connected from behind the arc and then dished a slick pass to Goldbach underneath on the ensuing possession.
Â
Solid defense by TCNJ held Ramapo to just five field goals in the opening half. The Roadrunners also committed 10 turnovers, six via theft by the Lions. A short jumper by junior
Jess Lynch (Sandy Hook, CT/Newtown) closed out the scoring as TCNJ held a 33-15 lead at the break.
Â
The Lions continued to apply defensive pressure in the second half. The Roadrunners struggled to find open looks and shot just 25 percent from the floor. TCNJ caused 18 turnovers on the night and tallied 18 points off those mishaps. They also compiled 17 assists in the game, playing efficient basketball throughout the conference match-up. Lynch and freshman
Charlotte Schum (East Hanover, NJ/Morris Catholic) finished with three assists.
Â
TCNJ looks to make it five straight wins this Saturday when they host New Jersey City University at 1 p.m. in Packer Hall.
