Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lions fall to #5 Montclair State

Ewing, NJ... Fifth-ranked Montclair State University remained undefeated in conference play as the Red Hawks collected a 3-0 win over The College of New Jersey men's soccer team on Wednesday.

The win put Montclair State at 4-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play and 12-1 overall, while the loss dropped the Lions to 6-4-3 and 0-4 in league action.

The Lions generated the game's first scoring chance when junior Thomas Hogue (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic) took a shot from the far side of the Montclair State penalty area that was smothered by keeper Mike Saalfrank (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey). That opportunity came just over six minutes into the game.

The Red Hawks quickly countered with a goal just over a minute later when Damian Bziukiewicz (East Rutherford, NJ/Becton Regional) knocked in a cross by Kyle Goodwin (South Brunswick, NJ/South Brunswick).

Montclair State added another goal with 11:42 left before the half as senior Brendan Guzman (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) headed in a long throw-in by sophomore Mike Taranto (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo).

TCNJ had a good chance in the early stages of the second half, but a shot by Mathew Ziegler ((East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) went over the cross bar.

The Red Hawks finished the scoring with 2:29 left in the game as Bziukiewicz picked up his second of the game.

Junior Jake Nesteruk (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) finished with three saves for the Lions, while Saalfrank also made three stops for Montclair State.

The Lions play again one week from tonight when they host another conference opponent in Rutgers-Camden at 7:30 p.m. in Lions Stadium. The Red Hawks continue NJAC play on Saturday heading to Rowan University.
