EWING, N.J. (November 11, 2015) –The College of New Jersey won its home opener 28-10 against Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday. The win moved TCNJ to 1-0 and dropped Stevens to 0-1 on the season.
Sophomore
James Goldschmidt won by fall in 3:14 to get the Lions rolling.
Ryan Budzek,
Steve Schneider,
Antonio Mancella,
Nick Herring, and
Doug Hamann all secured decisions before
Dan Wojtaszek scored a major decision as TCNJ rattled off seven straight victories.
Kyle Cocozza won his bout by decision which capped off an impressive night on the mat for the Lions.
The College celebrated its 50
th year of wrestling by inviting Alumni and supporters. Over 700 people packed Packer Hall as 65 Alumni were honored. Special guests included President Gitenstein, former President Eickhoff, and the Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Hecht.Â
Wrestling at the College officially started in 1965. Since that season the team has earned 5 NCAA Team Titles, 27 Top Ten Team finishes, 152 All-American citations, 22 Individual National Championships, 56 Individual NCAA Finals appearances, 35 Academic All-American citations, and held a record of 678-160-5.
