Lions secure road win at Delaware Valley

Doylestown, Pa …The College of New Jersey women's basketball team won for the third time in four games as they defeated Delaware Valley University 62-54 on Wednesday night in Doylestown, Pa.

The Lions (3-6) took advantage from the free-throw line as they drained 19-of-21 attempts (91 percent) in the contest. Senior Angelica Esposito (Lincroft, NJ/St. John Vianney) led the way with a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds. She knocked down all eight of her foul shots and dished out a pair of assists. Sophomore Cindy Napolitano (Wall, NJ/St. Rose) registered four, three-point field goals to finish with 14 points, while classmate Nikki Schott (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) contributed six points and four boards.

In the opening period, the Lions trailed early but a three-pointer by Napolitano gave TCNJ a 9-7 advantage. Midway through the second quarter, she extended the lead to 23-13 with a layup off a feed from rookie guard Kate O'Leary (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull). An Aggie bucket with 31 seconds remaining in the half trimmed the Lions' lead to 26-18 at the break.

Delaware Valley came out firing in the third period and took a 37-34 advantage after a pair of Danielle Skedzseilewski free throws. A Schott basket from inside the paint was sandwiched by four Esposito foul shots to even the score at 39. Junior Taryn Corrigan (Ramsey, NJRamsey) connected twice from the charity stripe in the final seconds to put TCNJ on top 41-39.

The Lions mounted a 15-6 run and stretched the lead to 11 points at the midpoint of the fourth. Corrigan punctuated the run with a three-pointer and TCNJ held off the Aggies for their second road win of the season. Corrigan finished with five points as did junior guard Kim Dana (Freehold, NJ/Freehold).
