Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey baseball team dropped a 6-4 decision to Rowan University on Monday afternoon in Glassboro, NJ.

The loss drops the Lions to 12-11 on the season and evens their conference record at 5-5. The Profs improved to 19-7 this season and 8-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

TCNJ took its momentum from a ninth-inning rally on Sunday into its start on Monday. In the top of the first, they quickly mounted a 2-0 lead. Junior
John Rizzi (Long Hill, NJ/Watchung Hills) led off the with a walk and senior
Anthony Cocuzza (Absecon, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) singled to right field. Junior
Patrick Roberts (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) ripped a single through the middle to plate Rizzi.

Garen Turner (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley) drove a 2-2 pitch to right field to score Cocuzza and push the lead to 2-0. It was the 12
th RBI in the last three days for Turner.

Rowan got a run back in the first and took a 3-2 lead in the third. A successful squeeze but by
Eric Oliver followed by an run-scoring single by
Casey Grimes gave the Profs a one-run advantage.

In the fourth, TCNJ tied the game 3-3. Senior
Josh Limon (Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) stroked his team-leading 10
th double of the season down the left-field line. Catcher
CJ Gearhart (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) came through a base hit to chase home Limon with the tying run.

The two teams would trade runs in the bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth.
Ryan Pavlik delivered an RBI single and Cocuzza laced his second hit of the game to score Rizzi, who had walked.

The Profs took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. TCNJ starter
Steven Volpe (Cherry Hill, NJ/Eastern Regional) retired the first two hitters before Grimes doubled to left field.
Kevin McMenamin was hit by a pitch and first baseman
Steven Todd tripled to center to drive in Grimes and McMenamin.

Corey Feigenbaum pitched a scoreless ninth to register his fourth save of the season.
Rich Suarez surrendered one run over three innings of relief to raise his record to 4-0.

Roberts and Cocuzza both finished with two hits in the game. TCNJ played solid defense, but left 10 runners on base in the game. Volpe went seven innings and struck out three. Senior
Benito Gonzalez (Perth Amboy, NJ/Princeton) tossed a scoreless eighth inning.

TCNJ returns home tomorrow (Tuesday) to host Farmingdale State in George Ackerman Park at 3:30 p.m.
