Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hogue leads TCNJ to 3-2 win over Kean

Union, NJ … Senior Thomas Hogue (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic) netted a pair of goals and classmate Nick Costelloe (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) also tallied as The College of New Jersey men's soccer team defeated Kean  University 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.

The victory puts the Lions (8-7-2, 4-3-1 NJAC) in fourth place in the NJAC standings with one game left to play. TCNJ has 13 points along with third-place Rutgers University-Camden. Kean rests in fifth place with 12 points followed by Stockton University in sixth with 11 points and Montclair State University with 10 points. The top six teams qualify for the 2016 NJAC Championship Tournament.

Hogue scored in the 15th minute to give the Lions an early lead off a feed from rookie Michael Maltese (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.). Cougar Kenny Rocha tied the match in the 27th minute and the contest remained locked at 1-1 into the intermission.

Just over 12 minutes into the second period, Hogue picked up a loose ball off a corner kick and lofted a well-placed shot for his second goal of the game. It was his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

A little under 19 minutes later, Hogue set up Costelloe with the Lions final score. He touched a pass that Costelloe buried in the upper corner to secure the win.

A goal by Kean's Robert Barerra in the final minutes made the outcome closer, but the Lions' defense did not allow another shot in front of goalkeeper Dan Walsh (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick). Walsh finished with seven saves in the game.

The final date for NJAC regular season games is Wednesday, October 26. The schedule is as follows:

Kean at Ramapo at 3 p.m.
NJCU at Montclair State at 7 p.m.
