Ewing, NJ. … The College of New Jersey women's soccer team advanced to the second round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament with an impressive 7-0 win over Marywood University on Saturday in Lions Stadium.

The Lions (17-1-1) erupted for four, first-half goals including a pair by senior
Marissa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, NY/Pearl River) in the opening six minutes of the game. The quick lead by the host made it tough for the Pacers to get in sync as they were unable to register a shot in the game

Gianna Zarra (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) scored twice, while junior
Elizabeth Thoresen (Colts Neck, NJ/Red Bank Catholic), freshmen
Joriam Rivera (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial),
Despina Lianidis (Lindwood, NJ/Mainland Regional) also tallied for the Lions in their opening NCAA tournament contest.

Scognamiglio took the game by storm in the opening minutes. She drilled a header off a corner kick from junior
Jessica Goldman (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) to the put TCNJ on the board, and then headed home another cross from Goldman two minutes later.

In the 15
th minute, junior
Elizabeth Thoresen (Colts Neck, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) was tripped up in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. She converted to extend the Lions lead to 3-0.

Later in the half, Zarra lifted a shot from 15 yards out just over the outstretched hands of goalkeeper
Aly Moyer and into the left corner for his first collegiate goal.

Zarra was back out on the field in the second and quickly netted her second career goal. Just over two minutes after the intermission, senior
Sarah Marion (East Windsor, NJ/The Peddie School) sent a long cross from the right side of the defensive line. Zarra ran on and slipped a shot under Moyer to make it a 5-0 contest.

Rivera found the back of the net off a feed from Lianidis in the 58
th minutes, and then Lianidis capped the scoring off a cross from freshman
Alexa Pestritto (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley).

Moyer played a tremendous game in goal and made 10 saves in the contest.
TCNJ will face Brandeis University tomorrow (Sunday) at 1 p.m. in Lions Stadium. The Judges defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 3-0.
