Lions host Cougars, Profs tonight

Ewing, NJ ... Lions Stadium will serve as the stage for excitement again this evening as The College of New Jersey will host a pair of New Jersey Athletic Conference semifinal matches. The women's soccer team, ranked fifth in the NSCAA poll and the top seed in the tournament, will take on fifth-seeded Kean University at 5 p.m. TCNJ field hockey, also ranked fifth and the number one seed in the tourney, squares off against Rowan University at 8 p.m.

In the opening contest, the Lions (15-0-1) look to remain unbeaten and are seeking their 17th NJAC title in program history. TCNJ battled Kean just 10 days ago at the soccer complex, and after trailing at halftime 1-0 for the first time all season, exploded for five second-half goals. The Cougars are 12-7 this season and are seeking their first NCAA bid since 2006. Kean has its sights set on advancing to the championship game to play for their first conference championship in program history. The other semifinal match pits Montclair State University at Rowan University at 7 p.m.

In the nightcap, TCNJ (14-3) will take on longtime rival Rowan (16-2) at 8 p.m. The two teams faced each other on October 4th in Glassboro, NJ with the Lions coming from behind to snatch a 3-2 victory. Prof Rachel Galante gave Rowan a 2-1 lead with 7:15 to play in the match. But Lexi Smith converted a penalty stroke less than two minutes later to tie it, and Jaclyn Douglas delivered the game-winner with 3:31 remaining to lift TCNJ to a 3-2 win. The Lions are seeking their 24th NJAC title and third straight championship. In the other semifinal match, Kean University plays at Montclair State at 7 p.m.

For fans attending tonight's events, this is an NJAC contest so there will be a $5 admissions fee for adults and $2 for students and children.
