Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey women's basketball team dropped a 74-66 decision to Moravian College on Monday night in Packer Hall.
Â
The Lions (2-4) fell victim to another strong individual performance as Greyhound senior
Camille McPherson registered her fourth consecutive 30-point game with 32 on the night. Moravian raised its season record to 6-2 with the road win.
Â
Four TCNJ players reached double figures in the scoring column. Junior
Chiara Palombi (Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan) connected on 7-of-9 shots for 14 points in just 11 minutes of play. Sophomore
Kate O'Leary (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) and freshman
Jen Byrne (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) finished with 11 points, while senior
guard Kim Dana (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) added 10 points, three assists, and a pair of steals.
Â
The Lions got off to a slow start in the first quarter and fell behind 7-0 after the opening tip. They battled to climb their way back to make it a 14-11 score at the end of one. In the second quarter, a three-pointer by junior
Cindy Napolitano (Wall, NJ/St. Rose) followed by a
Katy Amato (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) layup gave TCNJ its first lead at 24-23 with 27 seconds to play in the first half.
Â
Greyhound
Nadine Ewald hit a jumper with 16 seconds on the clock to give Moravian a 25-24 lead at the break. McPherson shot 50 percent from the floor in the opening half to lead all players with 14 points.
Â
A layup by O'Leary made it a 34-33 Moravian advantage with six minutes to play in the third, but McPherson drained a shot from behind the arc to spark an 8-0 run. The Lions were unable to recover as the interior presence of the Greyhounds was difficult to handle. Ewald and
Maddie Capuano combined for 17 rebounds, and McPherson finished 12-of-20 from floor, including three buckets from long distance.
Â
TCNJ junior
Cindy Napolitano (Wall, NJ/St. Rose) was 2-for-4 from three-point range for six points. Napolitano entered the game ranked second nationally in Division III in three-point field goal percentage at 65 percent.
The Lions will host their third straight home game when New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent Rowan University visits on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
