TCNJ tops Kean in season finale

Union, NJ … The College of New Jersey women's basketball team used a spectacular offensive performance from senior Angelic Esposito to register a 65-62 victory over Kean University in their season finale on Wednesday night in Union, NJ.

The win raised the Lions overall record to 13-12, sealing the 22nd winning season in 23 years for Head Coach Dawn Henderson. The Cougars fell to 15-10 on the season with the loss.

Esposito saved her career-best scoring performance for her final game, tallying 29 points on 8-of-17 shooting, four three-point field goals, and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. The 29 points is the highest point total scored by a Lion since Hillary Klimowicz '09 dropped 31 on DeSales University on March 6, 2009 in the in the NCAA championship tournament.

Kean battled its way back in the fourth quarter to make it tight, but fittingly, Esposito converted a pair of free throws down the stretch to stave off a late rally by the Cougars. She ranks third nationally in free throw percentage at .899.

The Lions did an outstanding job under the boards, pulling down 50 rebounds in the contest. Senior Jess Lynch (Newtown, CT/Newtown) and junior Kate Amato (Ramapo, NJ/Wyckoff) led the way with eight boards apiece. Esposito and sophomore Nikki Schott (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) each collected seven rebounds.

Lynch also reached double figures with 10 points, while Taryn Corrigan (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) and Cindy Napolitano (Wall, NJ/St. Rose) who added eight and six points respectively.

The four three-point field goals gave Esposito 154 for her career, which ranks third all-time in TCNJ program history.

TCNJ finished 9-9 overall in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
