Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's soccer team rippled the back of the net four times in the second half to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham, 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the TCNJ Soccer Complex.

The Lions evened their season record to 3-3, while the Devils fell to 0-4-2 overall.

Freshman
Mateo Panizza (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) notched the third goal of his budding career and also dished out an assist in the win. Senior
Nick Costelloe (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) also tallied his third goal, while classmate
Sean Etheridge (Oakland, NJ/Ramapo) netted his first goal of 2016. Sophomore
Matt Skinner (Allentown, NJ/Allentown) capped the second-half outburst with his second goal this season.

It was a similar script in the opening half. TCNJ pounded away at the FDU defense, but came away empty. Devils goalkeeper
JT Bretschneider was forced to make six saves off 14 Lion shots.

FDU nearly took a 1-0 lead in the 22
nd minute. Senior
AJ Carnavale ripped a shot from the top right corner of the box that was destined for the back of the net. But TCNJ goalie
Dan Walsh (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) left his feet to dive to his right and bat away the potential goal. At the other end, Lions' sophomore
Nick Sample (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) got off a side volley with just under 13 minutes remaining in the period. Bretschneider dove to his right to spear the line drive out of the air.

Ten minutes into the second half senior
Thomas Hogue (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Bergen Catholic) had possession down the right side and lofted a cross to the far post. Etheridge headed the ball out of the air and into the left corner for a 1-0 lead.

The Devils tied the contest just under 11 minutes later.
Shawn Jennings took a pass in box from
Dylan Meyler and redirected a low shot off the left post and in for his second goal of the year.

TCNJ responded with three unanswered goals to put the game away, the first just two minutes after FDU tied it. Panizza found a seam in the Devil's defense to the foot of Costelloe. He touched it nd poked a shot to the right Bretschneider for the eventual game-winner.

In the 79
th minute, Panizza carried the ball from 25 yards out on the left side. He got past a defender and lined a low shot into the left corner for a 3-1 advantage. Skinner finished the scoring when he took a long pass from Sample and knocked it between the posts to seal the victory.

Walsh earned his first collegiate win and made three saves. Bretschneider had a solid game in net and registered eight saves.

TCNJ opens New Jersey Athletic Conference competition this Saturday with a match at William Paterson University at 1 p.m. in Wayne, NJ.
