Riverdale, NY… The College of New Jersey wrestling team split a pair of dual meets Saturday afternoon at the Double Dual hosted by The College of Mount St. Vincent and New York University.
In their opening bout, the Lions won five of the eight contested matches against NYU, but were forced to forfeit two weight classes causing the squad to suffer a tough 21-17 decision. TCNJ rebounded against Mount St. Vincent, winning two of the four contested matches, and accepting five forfeits on their way to a 40-13 victory.
Individually, the Lions were led by
Dan Kilroy (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Hills). Kilroy earned a 6-1 decision victory over fifth ranked John Messinger from NYU, and followed up that performance with a pin against his opponent from Mount St. Vincent.
Nick Herring (Middletown, NJ / Middletown South) also finished the day unbeaten, earning a major decision in his only contested match, before accept a win by forfeit.
JT Beirne (Fanwood, NJ / Scotch Plains Fanwood) earned a decision victory in his only action of the day.
The Lions return home next Saturday, January 28 when they will host the NEWA/Metro Duals. Action begins at 12:00 pm.
