Late rally propels Lions past Roadrunners

Mahwah, NJ … The College of New Jersey women's basketball team staged a late comeback to upend Ramapo College, earning a 47-42 victory in New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

The Lions outscored the Roadrunner 12-2 in the final two minutes of the game to raise their season record to 6-7 and conference mark to 3-4. Ramapo dropped to 6-7 and 1-6 in the NJAC.

In a low-scoring affair, TCNJ trailed 30-27 entering the fourth quarter. Trailing 40-35 with just over two minutes to play, senior Kim Dana (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) and junior Charlotte Schum (East Hanover, NJ/Morris Catholic) each knocked down clutch three-pointers to pull ahead 41-40. The Ramapo's Bridgette Buckalew hit a pair of free throws to regain the lead, but the Lions were a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe down the stretch. Junior Nikki Schott (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) drained two foul shots and Dana buried all four free throw attempts.

On the defensive end, TCNJ did not allow a field goal for the final 2:33 of the game to secure the road win.

Schott played a big role in the win, netting 14 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Schum also grabbed nine boards to go along with six points and two steals in the win. Dana finished with 10 points, six rebounds, and a game-high five assists.

The Lions will look to make it two straight when they visit Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
