Lions Win on Senior Night

Senior Insert

Ewing, NJ…
On senior night in Lions stadium, The College of New Jersey women's soccer team turned to their youth to defeat Stockton University 1-0 Wednesday night. The Lions remained perfect at 12-0 overall and 6-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Ospreys fall to 5-9-1 on the season and sit at 1-5 in the NJAC.

The Lions were in control of possession for a majority of the first half and took 11 shots, with six of those being on target, but none of the chances were a true test for Osprey goalkeeper Nicole Pallante. The game went into the half at 0-0.

TCNJ would break through early in the second half. Sophomore Jen McGrogan (Pomton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Twp.) lined up over a free kick from 40 yards out and hit a high arcing ball toward the far post. Classmate Taylor Nolan (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) made a perfect run and tucked her headed effort just beneath the bar to open the scoring.

The Lion's back line of McGrogan, senior Kelly Wieczerzak (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley), and sophomore Ally DeRiggi (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) each played every minute in front of sophomore Nicole DiPasquale (Paramus, NJ/Paramus). DiPasquale has now gone 1,053:24 without allowing a goal in her career, the 11th longest streak in NCAA women's Division III history. The Lions are the only women's Division III team that has yet to concede a goal this season.

TCNJ out-shot the Ospreys 21-0.

TCNJ honored its six graduating seniors prior to the game.

The Lions are now on the road for their final four games of the season beginning with Montclair State University on Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Red Hawks are currently third in the conference with 14 points.
