Glassboro, NJ-- The College of New Jersey men's soccer team (6-9-3, 1-5-3 NJAC) was defeated by 6th ranked Rowan University (16-2-1, 8-0-1 NJAC) on Wednesday night by a final score of 8-2.
The Profs struck first when Tyler Logar scored after he controlled a rebound in the third minute. Ten minutes later, Zack Sakena made it 2-0 Profs when he scored out of a scramble in front. The rest of the first half,
Daniel Mecadon (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) held the Profs with only two goals as he made six saves. Rowan out shot TCNJ in the first half 16-3.
In the second half, the Profs began to pull away with two Matt Hendrickson goals. The Lions broke through in the 68th minute, when
Ethan Mueller (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp) found the back of the net off a
Peter Dresch (Highland Park, NJ/St. Joseph) free kick. Dresch sent in a free kick from the right side that found Mueller streaking inside of the box, and Mueller punched it in to score his first collegiate goal. After the Profs added three goals, the Lions scored again when
Michael Kassak (Moorestown NJ/Moorestown) converted on a penalty kick.
In net for the Lions, Mecadon tallied 12 saves on the evening. Erik Chekur got the win in net for Rowan, and registered three saves.
On the game the Profs out shot the Lions 31-8, and held the edge in corner kicks 6-4.
This marks the conclusion of the 2017 TCNJ men's soccer season.
