Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's soccer team continued their dream season Tuesday night defeating Stockton University 4-0 in the semi-final of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament. The second-ranked Lions improve to 17-0 on the season, while the Ospreys fall to 9-11-2.
Â
The Lions began the game much like the first meeting between the schools three weeks ago.
Jen McGrogan (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Twp.) played a free kick that looped perfectly to
Taylor Nolan (Sparta, NJ/Sparta). Nolan, who was recently named to the All-NJAC second team, found the back of the net to put TCNJ in front.
Â
Less than three minutes later Nolan would continue to have the hot foot, receiving a left to right pass in the box from NJAC Offensive Player of the Year
Christine Levering (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville). Nolan converted for her first collegiate multi-goal game.
Â
Within two minutes of that goal, Levering would find the scoring column herself. Fellow first team All-NJAC member
Elizabeth Thoresen (Colts Neck, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) played a nifty back pass and Levering found herself with space in the box. As she had done 56 times in the past, Levering beat the goalkeeper and the Lions had a 3-0 lead.
Â
Nolan would complete the hat trick before the first half expired firing home a loose ball from the top of the box.
Â
NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year
Nicole DiPasquale (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) and
Alexandra Panasuk (Wall Township, NJ/Wall) combined for the shutout, the Lions 15
th on the year.
Â
TCNJ out-shot Stockton 24-0 and earned eight corners to zero for the Ospreys.
Â
Head coach
Joe Russo, who was named NJAC Coach of the Year, brings his career record to 499-62-40. He will go for win number 500 as the team battles for the NJAC Tournament Championship and the automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament Friday night at 7:30 PM against Montclair State University in Lions Stadium. The Red Hawks punched their ticket to the final by virtue of a 4-2 shootout victory over Rowan University after playing to a scoreless draw.
