Ewing, NJ—The College of New Jersey women's soccer team (19-0) defeated Roger Williams University 3-0 (14-8-2) on Saturday in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Championships.
The Lions got on the board early in the fifth minute.
Taylor Nolan (Sparta NJ/Sparta) corralled a loose ball off a deflection in the middle of the box. From eight yards out, Nolan found the back of the net inside of the left post. Fourteen minutes later, TCNJ struck again.
Christine Levering (Robbinsville NJ/Robbinsville) controlled a high pass inside of the box from 40 yards out from
Jen McGrogan (Pompton Plains, NJ/Peaquannock Twp.), and snuck it past the Roger Williams keeper. Only two minutes after that, Levering added another as she took a feed from
Elizabeth Thoresen (Colts Neck, NJ/ Red Bank Catholic) on the right side, and punched it in from close to extend the Lions lead to 3-0. With that goal, Levering became TCNJ's all-time women's soccer career goals leader with 59. Levering already set the programs mark for points earlier this season.
The Lions defensive front controlled the game, and limited the Roger Williams offensive opportunities as the Hawks registered zero shots in the first half and three in the second half. The Lions got off 24 shots on the afternoon.
Nicole Dipasquale earned her 17th shutout victory of the year.Â
The Lions advance to the second round, where they will face Virginia Wesleyan University on Sunday, November 12th at 1:00pm in TCNJÂ Soccer Complex.
