Lions Defeat Stockton, Extend Winning Streak to Four

Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey women's basketball team (4-1, 2-0 NJAC) defeated New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent Stockton University (4-1, 1-1 NJAC) by a final tally of 65-47. Jen Byrne (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) continued her strong season with a team-high 15 points.

The Lions grabbed control of the game early on, as they jumped out to a 17-6 lead with 2:12 remaining in the opening period. Nikki Schott (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) pushed the Lions lead to 11 with a bucket in the paint. The Lions held the lead for the remainder of the game after Stockton net the the opening two points. 

In the second quarter, the Lions built momentum heading into the second half with a 12-4 stretch. Back-to-back three pointers from Samantha Famulare (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp) and Charlotte Schum (East Hanover, NJ/Morris Catholic) keyed the Lions run. The remainder of the game the Lions did not ease up, as the Ospreys did not pull within any less than 11 points. 

Byrne finished with 15 points on 7-15 shooting from the floor, and also contributed to the rebounding as she came down with nine boards. Schott scored 13 points on a perfect 6-6 from the field, while Famulare added 12 points. Schum distributed the basketball effectively, as she tallied ten assists on the evening. Shannon Devitt (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) added nine points, eight rebounds and played solid low post defense with three blocked shots.

TCNJ harrassed Stockton on the defensive end, and forced 15 turnovers which led to 24 points for the Lions. The Lions won the battle on the glass by a margin of 38-29.

With the win the Lions have now won four games in a row. Next up they will travel to Kean University on December 2nd for an NJAC match-up at 3:00 pm.
