Greensboro, NC… The College of New Jersey women's soccer team closed out the Lions 12
th final four run with a third place finish for the fifth time in program history falling 1-0 to the University of Chicago Friday morning. The Lions end the season at 21-1-1, while the Maroons improve to 22-1.
The loss ends the Lions 24-game unbeaten streak dating back to last season.
Â
The Lions fell behind in the sixth minute. A failed clearing attempt placed the ball on the foot of Madori Spiker. Spiker played a perfect cross to Hanna Watkins, who found the lower right corner of the net.
Â
The Lions defense settled in following the early misstep, but the damage had already been done. The Maroons finished with nine shots on the game, with only a pair coming in the final 40 minutes.
Â
TCNJ was not without their chances offensively. Midway through the second half,
Christine Levering (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) appeared to have the goalie beat, but took an extra touch that allowed the defense to recover and wipe out the scoring chance.
Â
Hannah Richman (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor) and
Jessica Goldman (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) each finished with four shots to lead TCNJ.
Â
Lions goalie
Nicole DiPasquale (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) finished with two saves.
Â
The Lions out-shot the Maroons 12-9, but only two of the Lions shots were on target. TCNJ earned seven corners to three for Chicago.
